Excerpt from Sweet Retreat for a Cupcake Queen
Source: Transformations in Oregon Home Magazine, November/December 2005, Page 81.
Marilyn DeVault, the proprietress-baker behind Piece of Cake in Portland, remakes an 1890s outbuilding in
West Linn, Ore.
Marilyn DeVault has a thriving business as one of Portland's best makers of wedding cakes, cupcakes and cookies,
but if she ever wanted to make money in a nonconfectionary venture, she need only traipse to the small cottage in the
corner of her 1-1/3 acres in West Linn, Ore., to find her new calling: antiques dealer.
The woman has never seen a cakeplate or vintage cookbook or turn of the centery piano stool on salvaged house part that
she hasan't wanted to take home. Luckily what she calls The Little House (she lives in the nearby Big House) awaits what
catches her eye.
